La Joue du Loup is a charming village located in the beautiful Dévoluy area in the French Alps near the town of Gap. This compact and sunny village is right on the ski slopes and is linked into the larger Super Dévoluy ski area.
The resort offers an excellent base for skiers and snowboarders of all standards. La Joue du Loup is a pretty chalet-style village where you will find all you need for the perfect holiday: cafes, piano-bars, disco and supermarkets. There is also ski hire and ski clubs situated in the village. For more extensive shopping, you will find, a short drive away, the larger resort of Super Dévoluy.
The main ski lift is in the centre of the village. It has one of the best snow and sunshine records throughout Europe and offers doorstep skiing for all levels as well as great facilities for summer holidays.
WINTER
La Joue du Loup is situated at an altitude of 1500m. It is linked to the Super Devoluy ski area and has a large common ski area of 100kms with downhill and cross country skiing. It is an excellent base for skiers and snowboarders of all standards and has one of the most beautiful cross country skiing area of the Southern Alps.
The village has retained it's mountain atmosphere. The slopes in the immediate vicinity pass through larch forests making it an attractive ski area.
There are a total of 60 slopes suitable for all levels. From the green nursery slopes in the village to the challenging black run La Pierra (2510m) 5km with an altitude difference of 990m. The station is equipped with artificial snow making machines, to ensure the resort is operational even during periods of poor real snow cover.
Experts will find that there is a lot of off piste available.
Snowboarders have a dedicated surfzone which includes kickers, hits, boardercross and a small pipe.
Excellent for families, as the resort offers extremely reasonably priced ski pass solutions and equipment hire. This ski station offer all members of the family the opportunity to ski at all levels and inexpensive ski lessons are readily available.
Other adventurous winter activities -include snow-mobiling, snow-shoe, ice-rink, ice diving beneath the nearby lake, ice-driving, tobogganing by the village centre, ice-wall climbing.
SUMMER ACTIVITIES
This is as much a summer resort as a ski resort with plenty of activities in the village and nearby. Open air swimming pool, large adventure playground, paint balling, trampoline, archery, pony club, volleyball, tennis and football are all available near the village or at Super Devoluy which is linked by cable car.
Tennis lessons and tennis tournaments are organised and you can arrange horse riding lessons at the pony club. Golf de Bayard is 28 kms away. At the nearby lake Sautet (20kms), canoeing, canoeing, hydro speed, rafting and windsurfing is available.
There is endless opportunities for breathtaking walks and mountain biking. Guides routes are available from the village. Connections are via cable car.
For the more adventurous, caving and paragliding are also organised nearby.
